MITTAGONG PEAR

2012

Private commission:
Mittagong, Australia,

The clients invited me to create a large pear sculpture for their rural property in the Mittagong highlands, south of Sydney.

Initially, to confirm the shape of panels, I developed several fragile, paper marquettes. Because of the size and complexity of forming and pressing compound curves in stainless, I decided to make a small 600mm steel marquette, pressing and cutting to achieve the curved neck of the pear within the convex panels of the sculpture; a process that took several weeks to achieve.

The three meter high Mittagong Pear involved many additional equally challenging processes.

The artwork is lit with in-ground LED spot lights.

Dimensions: Height 3000mm x Diameter1200mm.

Materials: 2.5mm Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel. Electropolished.
