Nautilus Whispers, 2007 Nautilus Whispers was created for the Sculpture on the Gulf Exhibition, Waiheke Island 2007 where it won the Peoples Choice Award. The text-based work, 2400 mm height, was created from 316 Stainless Steel, 3mm thick, laser cut, hand ground, formed and pressed to 'humanise' the material. The sculpture was inspired by the exquisite and rare Pupu-Tarakihi, the translucent shell cradle that carries and protects the eggs of the female Paper Nautilus. By increasing the scale of natural life forms, I draw attention to their delicacy, complexity and vulnerability. |
