Waitemata Frond, 2004 An edition of 2 stainless steel sculptures, 2800 x 800 x 600 mm. Sculpture On the Shore, Women’s Refuge Exhibition, Fort Takapuna, Devonport. The stainless steel frond references vessel and palm leaf forms. The laser-cut work has a series of lattice elements welded along the central spine, implying the steel of the sculpture had been stitched together like the wood segment ‘stitching’ in my earlier vessels. The two Waitemata Frond sculptures were made to support the Women’s Refuge through the exhibition Sculpture On The Shore, 2004. They are now installed on opposite coasts, at Matarangi and Piha.
